Oil rises on recession fears; the USD rises against the yen

Commodities market

Oil prices rose from multi-month lows on Monday as investors' appetite improved in response to data on US jobs and Chinese exports that alleviated recession fears.

By 0439 GMT, Brent crude futures had risen 22 cents, or 0.2 percent, to $95.14 per barrel. West Texas Intermediate crude in the United States was trading at $89.18 per barrel, up 17 cents, or 0.2 percent.

Foreign exchange market

On Monday, the dollar extended its best rally against the yen since mid-June, boosted by higher Treasury yields following a surge in U.S. job growth that raised expectations for more aggressive Federal Reserve policy tightening.

The dollar index, which measures the currency against six counterparts, was at 106.77, down from a high of 106.93 on Friday, which was also the highest since July 28.

Similarly, major altcoins are attempting a new increase. ETH has risen above USD 1,700 and may continue to rise if it breaks through USD 1,740.

Stock market
