Asian stocks grew higher on Thursday, prompted by a possible easing of tensions between the US and China and lowered energy prices, as oil slipped from multi-year highs. MSCI’s broadest Asia-Pacific stock index outside Japan rose 1.45%, which could be its best daily performance since August.
On Wall Street, trading ended higher on Wednesday, as a deal in Congress between Democrats and Republicans to prevent a default on US government debt became more likely. Mega-cap stocks Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) and Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) surged more than 1% after the 10-year US Treasury bond yields slipped from three-month highs.
Crude oil surged to a seven-year high overnight before calming down from its recent soar, while natural gas jumped to a record peak in Europe. Coal prices from major exporters also hit historic highs. In the digital currency realm, bitcoin hovered around a nearly five-month high of $ 55,800 hit Wednesday. By the end of the day, it was trading around $ 54,776.
