In a brief interview the newest winner of Drag Trade contest Alexey Baulov from Tumen shared his thoughts on the main side to a profitable trading system as well as his winning tactics.

Alexey, tell us about yourself: what is your education, how long have you been trading on Forex and how did you start?

I am an engineer and have been trading on Forex for over 4 years. It all started when I found out that one of my friends really got into trading. I must confess, I was pretty sceptical about all this Forex thing at that time, but my friend is far from being stupid and I thought, - "why don't I at least see for myself what it really is before making any judgements?" At first I was trading on several demo accounts and even participated in some demo contests, but without any luck. My real trading expecience started with my first Micro account, but I quicky shifted to a Standard one. My friend has already dropped Forex, but I never did and am pretty happy about it.

Tell us about your trading strategy. How did you learn about it?

My strategy is based on Fibonacci retracement and Elliott Wave Principle. I can tell you an exact source I learnt it from. It is more about my experience of ups and downs, trying many things. Even now I keep improving the system based on the market mood.

What trading strategy do you consider the most successful?

Based on my experience, which has helped me to grow from a losing gambler to a trader to whom Forex is a serious source of income, I can tell that there is no (or may be I've just never encountered it) 100% profitable strategy, which you can take from a shelf in a convenience store like a pie. You can develop an understanding of a market and transform it to an algorithm (mathematical equation). This algorithm will become our main trading system which will become better and better with time, continue its evolution.

For the contest you chose GBPUSD pair. What was the reason behind that?

My strategy suits three currency pairs: EURUSD, GBPuSD and AUDUSD. I chose only one pair because I like to focus on only one thing.

What do you think was your success factor?

I was increasing the volume when I saw the trend coming. There's no phsycology in a demo contest, to you can experiment all you want. I don't compete with anyone when I trade on a real account, because in the real world, everyone who earns profit is a winner there.

What would you recommend to those who have yet to participate in Grand Capital contests?

Never stop learning and remember that there is no strategy that will give you 100% result.

Good luck to everyone!

While some prefer to rely on luck and others on hard work, there are some who believe in talent. But is trading really for just anyone or there are some obstacles that can’t be overcome? We’ve tried to find the answer to this question together with our newest winner of Rally Trade contest Alexandr Myasnikov, who knows what it is really like to strive and to achieve.

What a trader needs

I’ve been trading for over 5 years. It all started with an ad in the internet which was portraying Forex as a good source of extra income and offering a training course. I was already retired at that time, so I thought why not to try it just for fun. My first trading experience was far from perfect. I wanted to make a lot of money and fast, which led to loss of several deposits. But I’ve never quit – I just wasn’t ready to let it go. From my experience the two main things you need to be successful on Forex, are the knowledge and patience. And if knowledge comes with experience, patience is not something anybody would have. That is why not everybody can be a good trader, I think.

Learn math and wait for luck

Internet has always been the only source of trading knowledge and ideas for me. When I was just starting, I was looking for fellow traders, learning technical analysis, testing trading instruments and choosing brokers on various forums. I chose Grand Capital for affordability and honesty. I participate in your contests all the time, despite the fact that sometimes I show really bad results. However, I want to give the following advice to all the novices out there: don’t be afraid to take part in contests and of course, learn math. This is the eternal truth.

No matter we do, most of us sometimes wish that there was some kind of a “magical formula” which will bring us admiration and money in no time. Unfortunately, in most cases there is no such thing. Trading is not an exception. But does it mean that we should stop reading about someone else’s “success secrets” and concentrate on our own ups and downs instead? And does it mean that there is no Holy Grail of trading at all? Well, it is a serious question, which requires a long discussion. Sergey Zhukin, the newest winner of Drag Trade contest has his own view on the complicated matter.

About the trading, major mistakes and sources of ideas:

My trading career started when I was on the second year on University. I was studying economic cybernetics and it seemed quite interesting to try trading as it required use of automatic trading, programming and economics – pretty much all that I needed. Qualities of a good trader? I think that one of the most underestimated is a cool head. There’s nothing in trading for you if you don’t have it. As per common mistakes, they are greed, overestimating intuition, high risks… Ideas for trading I get from economic calendar only. I don’t follow someone else’s prognosis, I make my own. I am not trying to find The Holy Grail of trading or something. I just trade everything that I see.

About trading strategies and Grand Capital contests:

For me, the most successful strategy is risk management, not a technical and fundamental analysis. I mainly trade volatile pairs like GBPJPY and EURGPY. For all the years that I’ve been trading I was able to create my own list of trusted brokers. Grand Capital is one of them. Their contests is a good start. They can provide you with a good background for your future trading. To all the beginners I recommend to choose a demo contest, risk all you can, go crazy . But after you win, just slow down and reflect on what has happened.
